Peripatetic Piano Teacher

From September 2026

St Mary’s Catholic High School is an over-subscribed 11-18 mixed Academy with excellent pupil behaviour and outcomes.  Our most recent OFSTED inspection (June 2024) found the school to be Outstanding in all categories, as did our Section 48 Inspection in 2025, and more recently the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2026 named St Mary’s as the Comprehensive School of the Year East Midlands.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Peripatetic Piano Teacher on a self-employed basis to join our Music department and support our pupils.   The department offers a great number of performance opportunities for developing musicians and encourages participation in the orchestra, and an array of smaller ensembles, and choirs.

The role requires excellent organisation and communication skills, including maintaining lesson records, writing reports and liaising with pupils, parents/carers and colleagues.   It is anticipated that you would be required for three days per week (term time only) with the potential to expand this, although it is important to note that this role does not guarantee a minimum number of hours and works on a ‘supply and demand’ arrangement.

The successful candidate will manage their own invoicing and arrangements for lesson payments directly with parents/carers.

TO APPLY YOU MUST COMPLETE AND RETURN THE SCHOOL’S SUPPORT STAFF APPLICATION FORM.  CVS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

Potential candidates would be very welcome to visit or have an informal telephone discussion with Mr Lloyd, Head of Music before applying.   If you would like to do so or would like any further information please contact the Headteacher’s PA, Mrs Rachel Gilding.

Application packs may be downloaded from the document list below or alternatively please telephone Mrs R Gilding, Headteacher’s PA on 01246 201191 (ext 2011) or e-mail rgilding@stmaryschesterfield.org.uk for further information or an application pack.

Closing date: Completed applications should be returned to Mrs Gilding by 10.00 am on Monday 13 July 2026

Please note that applications will be considered as they are received and we reserve the right to close this position before the date specified above.  We therefore urge candidates to apply as soon as possible.

St Mary's Catholic High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and as such expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
