Today has been our second day in Lourdes and it has been another scorcher. After breakfast our students met their pilgrim for the week and pushed the wheelchairs to our first Mass. During this Mass, everyone's hands were blessed as this week we will all act as helpers in different ways. During the Homily, we found out more about Jack Trainer, a soldier from Liverpool, who was injured during the First World War. After visiting Lourdes he was miraculously healed and was able to walk again. It was only last year that this miracle was officially declared the 71st miracle of Lourdes. After lunch, students had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, followed by some free time where many took the chance to cool down with an ice cream. After dinner, the Hallam Diocese led the Torchlight Procession, with Mr Bennett taking on the challenge of carrying the statue of the Virgin Mary alongside 3 other members of staff from other schools. We are very proud of our students who have made an excellent start on this pilgrimage - especially in how they have treated their pilgrim with dignity and respect as well as those who have already volunteered to take on a variety of roles during the Masses and Services.
