Student Leadership

Students improve the school through responsibility and service.

Sixth Form students at St Mary's take responsibility every day. Responsibility groups include Sports Captains, Reach Ambassadors and the Faith in Action Team. Our students support Science, Maths and English lessons in younger year groups, and act as Buddy Readers to boost literacy. They are language ambassadors, diversity champions and welfare advocates. We have a thriving Council in Sixth Form, with a Head Girl and Boy. Weekly meetings affect real change for the student body. Our parliament not only gives students a louder voice in school, but showcases the workings of democracy.

Our school council investiture takes place in Year 12, so council members have a chance to settle into Sixth Form life before taking on this extra responsibility. They then hold office until Year 13, handing over in time to focus on their exams. As well as effecting genuine change for good in the school, the Council also support school events, represent the school at public occasions and give voice to students across the whole school. They meet weekly as a council, with members of the Sixth Form Leadership. The School Council.
