CEIAG stands for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance.
At St Mary’s, CEIAG is increasingly becoming embedded into the curriculum and culture of education, as we recognise the important contribution it makes in supporting the successful transition between both childhood to adulthood and education to employment.
Careers Education
The aim of careers education is for pupils to:
Students receive careers education from Year 7; delivered during assemblies, form time and off-timetable events. The Year 10 World of Work week and the Year 12 Post-18 progression week are both key events in the careers calendar.
The school works with local universities and business partners to ensure wide-ranging provision.
Information
Pupils must have access to information about all opportunities and progression routes in learning and work. Web links to a wide selection of free online resources are on this website. Every pupil also has access to Unifrog, a single, impartial and user-friendly information platform. If a pupil has any issues with accessing Unifrog, they should contact Dr E Dando.
Advice
Careers advice will help young people make choices that are right for them. All staff can offer support, but certain staff will be able to offer advice that is more specific.
Dr E Dando– Careers Leader
Andrea Killingsworth– Careers Adviser
Mrs C Thurlow– UCAS Coordinator/Oxbridge applicants
Mr C Atkinson– Medical, dentistry and veterinary applicants
Mrs E Smith– Outreach opportunities
Guidance
All pupils can self-refer for a personalised careers guidance interview with Andrea Killingsworth. A high number of Year 11 pupils are invited for an interview, which parents are welcome to attend.
Further details of the CEIAG programme are in the CEIAG policy. This policy is reviewed annually, and the programme adapted as necessary.
The impact of the programme is evaluated using pupil questionnaires, by using Compass to map against Gatsby Benchmarks, by parent, teacher and student voice feedback, and by the destination data of our students
