Deciding what to do after School
Some of you may have been at St Mary’s for a long time and so making decisions about what to do next might feel rather daunting. Others of you might be excited by the prospect of pastures new. However you are feeling, it is vital that you give yourself plenty of time to research and consider your options so that you make a decision that is right for you.

Not only is the website a gold mine of information, it also advertises a wide range of exciting opportunities for both Year 11 and Year 13 pupils. www.notgoingtouni.co.uk advertises a wide range of opportunities for those Year 13 pupils considering routes other than university. Don’t forget that there is also a Careers Adviser in school who can help you as well as numerous members of staff.
Options after Year 11
Starting Year 11 after September 2013 means that you must now stay in education or training until at least your 18th birthday. This doesn’t have to mean staying in school. You can opt to study or train in any of the following ways:
By studying full-time in a school, college or with a training provider.
By taking up an apprenticeship or traineeship.
By working or volunteering full-time, combined with part-time education or training.
There are many things that you must consider when choosing how to continue after Year 11.
