Dear Parents/Carers

At the beginning of the year we launched our year group identity to our Year 11 pupils, and at the heart of our identity is the patron saint St Josephine Bakhita. St Josephine is Year 11’s year group saint, and our aim throughout the year is encouraging Year 11 to think about those who suffer from modern day slavery. Pupils have been given the opportunity to offer prayers and to offer some practical help by supporting ’Just-Ice’ as a response to the words and work of St Josephine Bakhita when she said that, ‘the Lord has loved me so much; we must show love to everyone, we must be compassionate!’

On Tuesday 8 February the Church celebrates the Feast Day of St Josephine and we will be celebrating this Feast with all our Year 11 pupils. We have arranged to take Year 11 to the Annunciation church to celebrate Mass with the Parish. On their return Year 11 will share an early lunch together before doing some fund raising and awareness raising activities in school. In addition to this, Year 11 will take part in a special assembly run by members of the team at Just-Ice, to reinforce how important their work is and why we must be compassionate to those who suffer in today’s world. For a special treat, Just-Ice will bring with them their own ice cream van. After their assembly Year 11 pupils will be invited to visit the ice cream van to select their treat; the cost of this is covered through the donation mentioned below.

The day will be a ‘non- uniform day’ and a ‘no homework day’ for year 11 only to celebrate. To cover the cost of the day we are asking each parent/carer for a donation of £6.00 which should be paid through ParentPay in advance of the Feast Day. If you would like to donate any more than this, all the extra money will go to ‘Just- Ice.’ Any donations are greatly appreciated. We have chosen this charity for Year 11 as the help and support that Just-Ice provide is invaluable to many people in our local community and it is a worthy cause. If you would like to find out more about the work that ‘Just-Ice’ to, follow the link to their website: https://www.just-ice.org/slavery.

Yours faithfully
