The staff of St Mary’s are really looking forward to pupils returning to school this week. We remain very proud of their conduct and attitude throughout the challenges of the last academic year, and hope that pupils are feeling both confident and optimistic, about the return to school and a fresh start.
For ease of access, all information regarding the return to school is located in RETURN TO SCHOOL INFORMATION on the school website.
Pupils in Years 8-11 and 13 will return to school on Wednesday 8 September. Pupils in Years 8-10 will wear their summer uniform, whilst pupils in Year 11 will wear their winter uniform. Year 11 girls should wear white ankle socks or navy tights. Pupils do not need to wear PE kit on the first day back to school.
We are aware of certain supply issues with Monkhouse, our uniform supplier. We do not want pupils and families worrying about this at the start of a new term, and therefore we will be flexible to help pupils, whilst awaiting their uniform delivery. If your child is without a skirt, she may wear the jogging bottoms normally worn for PE days. If your child is without a blazer, s/he may come to school without it. We also still have ties and blazer badges available from Reception and Parade Schoolwear, 20 Firs Parade, Matlock, DE4 3AS have a number of navy blazers in stock.
If you have any concerns regarding your child’s uniform, please contact their Head of Year to advise them:
Head of Year 8 Mr R Hancock firstname.lastname@example.org
Head of Year 9 Mrs D Shaw email@example.com
Head of Year 10 Miss S Murray firstname.lastname@example.org
Head of Year 11 Mr M Bigg email@example.com
The DFE requirements for school bubbles, social distancing and facemasks have been lifted. This means that our full range of extra-curricular activities will be able to take place, and that the school day will return to our previous timetable.
However, we will still be maintaining the following safety protocols:
- Masks must still be worn whilst pupils are using the school buses. Pupils must still sit in their year group zones on the bus.
- Hand washing and sanitizing will continue to be encouraged.
- Classrooms will be well ventilated.
- We will continue to operate year group specific outdoor zones, toilets and dining room times.
- Pupils will still line up outside for classrooms
- We will still encourage asymptomatic testing throughout September and for as long as the DFE ask us to do so.
- We will continue to engage with PHE to manage any positive COVID cases in our community.
Please note that isolation rules have now changed, and only people displaying COVID19 symptoms, or people who have had a positive test, must self-isolate. The requirement to self-isolate as a close contact has ended, and instead close contacts are encouraged to take a PCR test.
As always, we ask that parents/carers do not enter the school site or bus bay to drop off pupils and Year 7 – 11 pupils, not on school transport, must not arrive at school before 8.20 am.
Thank you for you continued support of St Mary’s, we are very much looking forward to the new academic year and remain determined to ensure that our pupils receive the highest quality education.
