First of all, we would like to thank you for your support with your child’s language learning during remote provision. We know that this has been a challenging time and we are so proud of the progress and resilience of our students.
As a reminder, in Languages, from Year 7 through to Year 13, every student completes a weekly vocabulary
test in order to consolidate vocabulary learning, address misconceptions and monitor progress. To prepare
for this test, their weekly homework is to spend around 30 minutes learning vocabulary. Students should
revise using one or a mixture of the following:
– Quizlet (online learning platform)
– Vocabulary book (kept in their exercise book)
– Knowledge organisers (A4 sheet given at the start of each new topic)
– Flashcards (target language on one side, English on the other)
– Teach someone at home
We want to support our students to maintain good routines with vocabulary home learning so that they can make sustained progress. Revising little and often is an excellent transferrable skill which they will use throughout their time at St. Mary’s in various subjects.
Every 6 weeks, your child should show you their test score sheet. We ask that you please continue to sign this so that you can see their progress and can discuss this at Parents’ Evenings.
A reminder that students also need to have whiteboard pens as part of their school equipment. These can be purchased at all major supermarkets.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs C Parkin Ms L Craven Miss S Pugh
