As part of the government’s move to Step 3 of the roadmap, from Monday 17 May, new advice applies to
the use of face coverings by staff and pupils in schools. St Mary’s policy on face coverings
has therefore been updated to reflect these changes.
Face coverings will no longer be recommended for pupils and staff in classrooms, but we will continue with
the policy of face coverings being worn in situations outside of classrooms, where social distancing and
maintaining year group ‘bubbles’ are not always possible, for example, when moving around in
corridors and at lesson change overs. Pupils will also be expected to wear a face covering when travelling
on school buses.
Pupils have been outstanding in their response and cooperation, throughout the duration of the pandemic,
and we will continue to follow government guidance regarding any further amendments to current
